She chose to have
Very little.
She was sure life was better,
Life was “safer,”
With “simple things,”
With “simple times.”
She felt most secure
With her ability –
As she would say-
“To pick-up and move on
With the drop of a hat.”
He found her-
“Rather mysterious.”
He was willing to accept
Her mystery.
At this point in his life,
He didn’t need
To share the secrets
She wanted to hold within,
To keep from him.
What, where or whom
She wanted to keep "secret,"
K eep from him,
What, where or whom
She’d been,
Or what she’d been through,
It didn't matter to him.
He often said, “Hey, you are
Who you are. It makes no
Difference to me.”
He would learn to call her,
“His beautiful little secret.”
“My mysterious little brat!”
She was his most prized
Collectable,
And she really didn’t mind that.

They lived together
Over three years,
Before she decided
To do something about
What people thought.
“I’m tired of you
Telling people
I’m your
Long, lost daughter.
What the hell
Do they think-
Incest?
You’re simply
Incorrigible!”
He laughed.
“How else do I explain
Living with a woman
15 years younger than me?”
He’d say,
“I tell them that
Because they understand
That only I could have
Fathered such a brat,
And such a beautiful
One at that!”
It was their game,
She cared for him dearly,
But her lover
He was not.
She fulfilled her “obligations.”
But neither wanted
Anything closer
Than that.
She was happy.
He didn’t care
About her affairs,
Her fling,.
She even thought about,
“Looking up her past.”
But she resolved
It would be better
Not to.
Why go back and bring
To life all those old pains
Again?
