About Emily Gray

He had found her,
Called her,
Her last “line,”
“Listen,
I’ll always love you,
But it’ll be better this way.
I’m happy.
You’ll be happy too.
Just let me go.
I am who I am.”
Abandoned
To her boundaries
She could control
Once again,
She returned to days,
To routines,
To the Emily she had chosen
To be.
She was meant to live
This abandoned life,
In this abandoned way.
There could be no other
Explanation
For the way
Her life had been,
Her “fate”
From the little gray house
To now-

-24
This small apartment
Three stories above
The city street.
Here,
She could control,
Put into place,
Any time,
Any relationship
She wanted to remember,
Any “kind of Emily”
She chose to be.
She could pick and choose
Her own fate.
There was a knock on the door,
The cat jumped down
To the floor,
“Emily,
You ready?”
She smiled,
“ What a nice young guy.
This night would be fun.”
“You be good now,”
She whispered to the cat,
“Emily won’t be back
Til’ sometime tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, I’m ready dear-
I’ll be there in second.”
Another lover,
Another adventure,
Another small piece
Of the puzzle of Emily,
A puzzle of
Abandoned lines,
And
Abandoned times.
