Merchants of Kenya...

is really all about the people of Kenya. The large majority are bi-lingual speaking English as well as a dialect of Swahili. Swahili has many different dialects, but they all share commonalities so that understanding and communication take place in a non-English language everyday and everywhere. When the Kenyan’s speak to English speaking people or people who understand English but are from other lands such as the French, Dutch, Swiss, Russians, Australians, Japanese, Chinese etc. they speak English. However, when they speak to each other, they tend to speak in some dialect of Swahili. Even in large cities like Nairobi, they speak a native language to each other, but English in business to people who speak English. English is by far, the most universally accepted language around the world. It is true as well across the African continent.more
