Elephants of Kenya

are increasing in numbers in protected areas. Elephants impact the eco-system more than any other creature. This is especially true in places like reserves in Kenya, the Masai Mara and the Serengeti. The word Mara in its original derivation means "spotted areas" or heavy woodlands, thick bush and plains. Elephants tend to change the landscape through the destruction of trees, trampling of early growth bush, and as a result grasses overtake areas that once were heavy bush lands and tree growth areas. Grasses tend to catch fires that burn without control in the dry season.
